My Blog:
http://thepeacefulpeacock.wordpress.com
I Make:
mostly a mess...along with the occasional bits of patchwork, applique, wool paintings, hand dyed fabrics, handwoven fabric, crochet goodies, felt, clothing, and now knitted stuff. I've been known to dabble in clay, beadwork, upholstery, jewelry, and fingerpaint as well.
More About Me:
I have had the good fortune of growing up as a third generation seamstress / fiber artist, though it took the birth of my son to finally give wings to my new path. I live in beautiful Bozeman, Montana with my soul mate, our son (and another wee one on the way!), our toothless cat, and two slightly neurotic little yellow birdies that we rescued from lives of neglect and loneliness.

I love to learn new skills and find the greatest peace from breathing in nature, creating, traveling, and seeing live music.

I saw that discussion--the comment about sounding elitist really got my attention. one of the beauties of etsy is that it consists of a very diverse and broad range of people, both as sellers and as buyers. when posting a topic on the forums there,…

Crazy! I guess it's like the word Kleenex used to mean tissue or Bandaid to mean... I don't even know what to call bandaids without the brand name... adhesive bandages? What word do you think you'll use instead of onesie?

another concern about this information is that it's written by a layperson (like us--hahaha) and it doesn't reference what types of clothing they're talking about specifically. scrubs, pajama pants, basic shirts--those are all "useful" items that ke…

wow! thanks for sharing that, hiedi! definitely an instance where "just because everyone else does it..." I would have never even thought about "onesie" being trademarked. don't feel bad about it--it's a simple mistake.

that is nuts! at least artifre was cool and let you know instead of booting you from their site. phew what a nightmare mama! thanks so much for sharing that info.......

that is making my head spin. holy smokes. it raises some good arguments for sure although I believe a lot of the creations made by our team members would fall under the protection of artistic expression, specifically the applique and patchwork desi…

Making Plans Instead of Excuses

So I've been knee deep in teething babes over here, the mess of my studio, and two feet of snow. And I've been pretty deep in thought about the future of my little enterprise and what needs to happen in order to make it follow true to my vision.

And I've decided to let go of the idea of selling any of my creations online until fall of 2010.

My monkey mind is having a hey day with that one, oooo-ey.

The reality of the situation is that I have too many irons in the fire right now. It's time to… Continue

Power vs. Force

There are a lot of times that I feel like I'm missing the boat.

I have flashes of inspiration, set my sites on moving toward the visions that erupt and bubble, but sadly look around to see that my thoughts are taking shape in the work of others. In trends and upward movements of style, not like they stole my notebooks. It's frustrating. I feel the mojo slipping through my fingertips, as it has many times in the past, and there is an empty, deflated shell where the electricity of my muse once he… Continue

the magic moment

just checking in--hope everyone is doing well!! we're down to our last four weeks of market season so I've been pretty slammed around here.

last weekend at the market, I had the mystical moment when it all comes together. montana is a pretty rural state--there are less than a million people here and there are only a couple of pockets of "hipsters" in this vast and beautiful land. bozeman is a college town, so we have a lot of transplants, a lot of free thinkers, and a lot of artists. there's al… Continue

summertime slam

Our Montana summers are short ones. After it finally quits raining (somewhere around the first week of July) and all signs of potential snowstorms finally pass, we have a blissful three weeks or so when it is absolutely perfect here. Then it gets really hot and the forest fires start up. This year will hopefully be pretty mild since we've had to much rain and snow and usually it's not *horrible* unless the wind is blowing all the smoke into the valley.

But the big skies, glorious mountain range… Continue

all signs point to yes...

I had this amazing dream about my grandmother the other night. She passed away a little over 10 years ago and though I feel her presence often I never dream about her. She came into my room and sat by me, made a phone call and suddenly the room was filled with women that she knew. We were all huddled around a laptop computer and it was like she was saying, "Ok--go!! We're here to watch over you!!"

It was incredible. And it left me with a peaceful feeling of ease and lightness that lingered all… Continue
